Is Your Face Round and Full? If your face is round and rosy then you are having a girl.

Conception: Did you concieve at the beginning of ovulation? It’s a girl.  Did you concieve at the end of ovulation? It’s a boy.  Well, I know that is was at the end forus this time around.  We’ll see.

Omega 3 – Benefits for Women

27 Jan 2009 / 0 Comments / in Pregnancy and Diet/by Baby Bedding

You may be wondering why pure fish oil is so different from other omega 3 sources.  Well, quality Omega 3 fish oil is the richest and best source of EPA, DHA and DPA, the three Omega 3 fatty acids proven in scientific research study after study have produced the following amazing Omega 3 benefits for women.

  1. Breast Cancer Protection: Studies have shown that with a high intake of fish oil fatty acids there is a 50% less chance of getting breast cancer, which is a major concern for most women.  DHA is a natural anti-inflammatory that stops cellular trsformation and kills off  cancer cells.
  2. Relief From Menstrual Cramps: As you know PMS symptoms are often the results of a fatty acid imbalance.  Omega 3 fish oil relieves monthly pain and cramping known as dysmenorrhea.
  3. Improve Fertlity: Research shows that infertility is directly related to the amount of fish oil you consume.  Fish oil balances hormones, imporves hormonal levels and increases blood flow to the uterus.  The more Omega 3 fatty acids you get the greater your odds of conceiving.
  4. Healthy Babies: Fish oil is essential to a healthy pregnancy diet, facilitating healthy placental blood flow and the efficient exchange of nutrients and oxygen between mother and baby.
  5. Preeclampsia Prevention: The high blood pressure during pregnancy, which is known as preeclampsia, can be very dangerous. The omega 3 fish oil fatty acids help maintain healthy blood pressure and greatly reduce any health risks for both mother and child. (I wish I would have known this since I have Preemclampsia for my first pregnancy)
  6. Full Term Babies: Fish oil fatty acids also lower the danger of premature birth. This insures during pregnancy stages a baby has fully formed lungs and reaches a healthy birth weight.
  7. Baby’s brain development: A child’s brain is especially dependent on the fatty acids found in omega 3 fish oil. For example, DHA has been found to ensure proper brain development and to increase a child’s intelligence. It also improves eyesight and the development of motor skills.  Our children now take chewable Omega 3 tablets daily.
  8. Less Postpartum Depression: Studies show women with a higher consumption of fish oil suffer significantly less postpartum depression. This means better times for both mom and baby.
  9. Minimized Menopause Problems: By greatly improving hormonal balance, fish oil fatty acids can dramatically reduce menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes and mood swings.
  10. Protection Against Osteoporosis: Having higher levels of fish oil fatty acids has been known to lower your risk of osteoporosis, which is an especially high risk for women after menopause.
  11. Reduced Risk of Heart Disease: As you know, deart disease kills more women prematurely than any other disease, including breast cancer. And the danger increases after menopause. Omega 3 with EPA and DPA is your best defense. Fish oil helps lower triglycerides, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol naturally. And it’s an essential part of an all around heart healthy diet.

Do You Have A Birthing Plan?

21 Jan 2009 / 0 Comments / in Other Advice and News, Uncategorized/by Baby Bedding

Birthing plans are a great way to stay in control of your birth.  It also allows you to educated and inform yourself about the birthing process.  A birthing plan is, quite simply, an outline of how you would like your labor experience to be.  Who do you want by your side? Where you want to give birth?  What special items you want to take with you.  Do you want to have music playing?

Before you get to carried away with what you want, (hospitals have many restrictions as to who can be with you and how you are able to labor).  Midwives are generally quite happy to accomodate each individual women and her birth plan so long as it does not interfere with the health of the baby.  My choice is having a midwife.  I’ve only had one hospital birth and that was out of neccessity.  My first child was born a month early via C-section because of Preeclampsia.  My other two were born at my midwives birthing center and it was a wonderful experience.  The freedom of how I wanted to labor and bring my child into the world was my choice.   My fourth child is due in June 2009.

Hospitals and doctors, on the other hand, can have varying options when it comes to a birthing plan.  Some welcome them while others won’t hear of it.  It is still worthwhile to make the birthing plan, though be prepared to defend your position and you may need to negotiate.  Regardless of who will be assisting you at your birth, it is necessary to create and present your birthing plan to your health care provider well in advanced of your due date.

Here are some things that your birthing plan may cover:

  1. Where you would like to give birth? (hospital, water birth, at home, birthing center)
  2. What type of atmosphere would you like?  I listened to Jack Johnson during my last birth. :-)
  3. Who you would like with you when you give birth? (partner, friends, family, children)
  4. Whether or not you want to be induced.  If so, how
  5. How you would like to manage your pain during labor
  6. How you would like the stages of labor to advance
  7. What position you would like to give birth in? (Remember, some hospitals have restrictions to this request)
  8. What kinds of vaccinations will your doctor give your child right after birth and is it necessary? Be informed.
  9. How will your doctor or midwife deal with any complications that may arise during labor

A birthing plan can be an empowering experience.  Not only does it allow to make decisions abour your birth and your body, but it also requires you to educate yourself about the birthing process.  As a result, you are less likely to be worried or feel anxious as your due date gets closer.  Starting today is a good time to start.
